Revived Money Museum Exhibit Now
Online

An Exploration of
Cromwell’s England , „ ^

From 2007-08, the ANA’s Money Museum fea¬
tured an exhibit called “Coins, Crown & Conflict: An
Exploration of Cromwell’s England.” It was based on
the history of the English Civil Wars and featured some
of the great rarities of English coins (including the Peti¬
tion Crown), as well as early American coins. Although
no longer on display at the museum, the exhibit can
now be appreciated virtually.

The exhibit explores the period starting with the
reign of Charles I and the English Civil Wars to the
first years of the restored British monarchy under
Charles II, through the coins, medals, people, and ob¬
jects associated with Oliver Cromwell. It is our privi¬
lege to display the Geoffrey Cope Collection, one of
the finest collections of coins from this period, to help
tell the story of this turbulent time in English history.

The LVNS held its last in-person meeting in
March, at the yery beginning of the COVID-19 shut¬
down. Howeyer, this has not stopped its members, es¬
pecially the young numismatists, from continuing with
actiyities. The LVNS board has continued to meet and
YNs haye participated in weekly quizzes on their topic
for this year — “Coins of the Old West.” The YNs
haye been receiying and sending in their quizzes and
conducting other actiyities online.

In a first for LVNS, the YNs held a Zoom meeting
on Sept. 12, with multiple participants. The YNs will
continue to use this platform for the rest of this year
(and into next, if necessary), as the inaugural Zoom
meeting worked yery well.

LVNS will proceed with its annual holiday ban¬
quet in December.

New Hampshire

Nashua Coin Club

by Kevin Winn, secretary-treasurer

Greetings from the Nashua Coin Club in Nashua,
New Hampshire! Hope all is well and our friends in
Canada are all staying safe.

The Nashua Public Library is still closed for meet¬
ings, so we haye held our monthly meetings yia Zoom

since April. The library has informed us that the rooms
will not be ayailable until 2021 at the earliest and eyen
that is not definite. We haye continued to hold success¬
ful meetings online and get 18-20 people together each
month. The online meetings haye proyed beneficial in
one respect: we haye added two new members to the
club who will probably only attend yia Zoom because
they don’t liye anywhere near Nashua. Welcome to the
club. Matt from Massachusetts, and Steye from Califor¬
nia.

Three recent meetings focused on numismatics
from Europe (July); Africa, Australia, and the Pacific
Islands (August); and South America, Latin America,
and the Caribbean Islands (September). We got to see
many great examples of coins and paper/polymer mon¬
ey from a multitude of countries within those regions
with a number of interesting stories about the articles
themselyes and the way in which they might haye been
obtained by the collector. Bob Fritsch also kept us on
our toes with great quizzes each month showing us
pictures of currency with the country’s name blocked
out and making us guess where they came from.

Our last meeting was held on Oct. 14, traditionally
the month in which we hold our annual awards ban¬
quet. The executiye committee of the club decided that
it was not safe for us to gather at a local restaurant
which is our custom, so we had the meeting yia Zoom.
Awards were announced (and later mailed) and we also
had a guest speaker, Mr. Frank Van Valen, who is a
well-known coin cataloguer who has worked with
many of the biggest auction houses in the U.S. Frank,
who is an honorary member of our club, spoke at last
year’s banquet and totally delighted us with tales of
famous coins and famous collectors that he has worked
with oyer his long career.

We also had a Coin-of-the-Month theme in Octo¬
ber and appropriately that was “Auction Catalogs.” Our
COTM for Noyember will be “Numismatics with a
Thanksgiying theme.”

Our newsletter. The Nashua Numismatist, has been
well-stocked with articles and news from many differ¬
ent members. These haye been outstanding issues, each
12-18 pages long and yery interesting to read.

We haye also continued
the show-and-tell feature
of our meetings and
members haye displayed
many interesting items
with medals, tokens and
paper money highlight¬
ing this segment of our
agenda. Keyin Winn’s
copper Bigfoot medal
was featured in the Au¬
gust meeting (photo by
Keyin). It is dated 2020
and made from one troy ounce of pure copper.

The biggest news for everyone is that the semi¬
annual Manchester, N.H. Coin and Currency Expo was
held as scheduled on Oct. 2-3. Two of our members
were there selling coins at their tables and a number of
our members were there to staff the Nashua Coin Club
table so that we could meet people and talk about our
club with anyone who walked by. This is the only show
that has taken place in New England since the pandem¬
ic began so it was a big event (but with masks and so¬
cial distancing rules strictly enforced).

Please STAY SAEE EVERYONE!

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists

PAN’s spring show was cancelled, however, its
Halloween weekend fall show was still a “go” for Oct.
29-31. PAN shows are held at the Monroeville Conven¬
tion Center, Monroeville, Pa., just a few miles east of
Pittsburgh.

scheduled for Sept. 25-27 was cancelled; however
conventions have been scheduled for Apr. 9-11 and
Oct. 8-10, 2021. See the new PNNA website at
https://www.pnna.org/wp/ for updates.

The PNNA’s 4* Quarter edition of The Nor’wester

James Reinders and PNNA Director Tony Kalt. This
edition can be viewed from links on the PNNA home-
page or the PNNA news page.

Willamette Coin Club

by Tim Bishopric, board member

The Willamette Coin Club (WCC) in Portland,
Ore., held its first coin photo competition on Sept. 17.
There were 14 submissions and about 30 people attend¬
ed the online presentation and voted. All the photos
showed dedication, creativity, and a passion for pho¬
tography and numismatics. There were modem. Colo¬
nial, and Medieval coins. Some included tokens and
currency. Several young collectors submitted photos.

Attendees cast three ballots each, and the top three
photographers were given prizes.

The WCC canceled its March meeting due to
COVID-19 and has held monthly meetings online since
April. The meetings feature educational presentations
and coins given away by random drawing. The club’s
October meeting included three numismatic quizzes.

The Elongated Collectors (TEC)
by Robert F. Fritsch, bobfritsch @ earthlink.net,
(603) 533-8662.

The Elongated Collectors (TEC) were unable to
hold an annual meeting in Pittsburgh this year (along
with every other club), so it was held online via Zoom.
Eifty-six members logged in, a record for any TEC
meeting to date. The annual auction was held innnedi-
ately following the meeting, again a highly successful
endeavor, filling the club’s coffers for the coming year.

The meticulous preparations were accomplished
through the dedication and hard work of our board.
They work for no compensation and little recognition
except the knowledge of a job well done. Here are our
board members and their functions.

• Our fearless leader is President Cindy Calhoun
who keeps us focused on the goals of the club.
Without her able leadership we would not enjoy
the success we now enjoy. She also assists in roll¬
ing our annual coins.

• Vice President Tyler Tyson is responsible for pro¬
ducing the many elongated coins TEC issues every
year, soliciting designs, getting dies made and roll¬
ing the coins. He is also the administrator of our
Eacebook page.

• Secretary Terri Ventresca keeps the membership
records and takes the minutes of our meetings.

MintMark — Fourth Quarter 2020

• Treasurer James Motley oversees our finances,
plus gathering color photos of elongated coins for
the next edition of Yesterday’s Elongateds, a book
originally written by Lee Martin and Dottie Dow
and reissued in several editions by TEC.

• Immediate Past President Nancy Wooten advises
and assists the president whenever she can.

• Governor Dee Drell is our legal beagle, working to
ensure our legal status.

• Governor Bob Frazier mails each issue of the
newsletter and the accompanying coins to our
members, in addition to helping administer the
Facebook page. He runs the annual TEC design
contest.

• Governor Uni Marbutt runs the TEC Store ( https://
www.tecnews.org/store/ ) which sells our wonder¬
ful coin sets, badges and special issues and keeps
the inventory up-to-date. She is also an administra¬
tor for the Facebook page.

• Editor Sandy Marxen edits and publishes issue
after issue of the super newsletter that is TEC
News, plus the auction catalog for this year’s sale.
She is our official “maskateer,” creating and pro¬
ducing TEC face masks, soon available at the TEC
Store in limited quantities.

• Historian Les Holbrook keeps our archives and
gathers the coins for distribution in TEC News.

• Webmaster Katie Watna has assembled a wonder¬
ful website ( https://tecnews.org/) and every day
fights the hackers and trolls who try to invade it.
The TEC News index is assembled and maintained
by her.

• Press Agent Bob Fritsch writes and sends releases
to various numismatic publications like this one.
He is a past president of the organization and
serves as the auctioneer.

This is the team that makes TEC the funnest club

in numismatics. Check out the website and consider

joining us - we would love to welcome you.

Thank you for the submissions received.

Although club meeting cancellations have re¬

nice issue of MintMark, and many clubs continue to
adapt with online meetings, while a few in-person
events are returning. Please be sure to read the inter¬

The next (1st quarter 2021) edition of MintMark
